The Most Important Question of Your Life: Where Will You Spend Eternity?

The Most Important Question of Your Life: Where Will You Spend Eternity?
You are searching. Your soul is hungry for something. You have a need, but you don’t know what it is. You are seeking fulfillment. You are longing for closure.

First and foremost, two questions come to mind: Is there a God, and am I responsible to Him? A resounding YES is the answer to both of those questions. The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. (Psalm 53:1a) For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: (Romans 1:20), and, So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.
(Romans 14:12) By this we know there is a God, and we will give account of ourselves to Him.

Who is this God? Why, Jesus Christ, of course. In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth. (Genesis 1:1) In the beginning was the Word [Jesus Christ], and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. (John 1:1-2), color="#FF0000">I and my Father are one. (John 10:30) For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. (I John 5:7)

So, there is a God, the Lord Jesus Christ, and we were created by Him. The Bible declares: All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. (John 1:3) and, Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created. (Revelation 4:11) We are all created beings, and we were put here on earth for the Creator’s pleasure.

As created human beings, we have a need to connect with our maker. The question “Why are we here?” comes to nearly every human brain at least once in a lifetime. There must be some purpose to our existence. And the question is rightly posed. That’s where our seeking, our searching, our need comes in.

We seek Him with questions of our existence. The LORD looked down from
heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God.
(Psalms 14:2) On the other hand, He style="text-decoration: underline;">seeks us because He desires to have fellowship with us. For the Son of man is come to seek
and to save that which was lost.
(Luke 9:10) So, both sides are seeking, one for the other.

Why? Why do we seek Him? Deep down, we know we need closure, fulfillment, to be complete. Only the Lord Jesus Christ can fill that void. color="#FF0000">And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and
(Colossians 2:10)

So, why does He seek us? Because, Jesus Christ, as the Creator, loves us and wants to redeem us. Luke 9:10 above states that we are lost, and He came down to save us. What are we supposed to be saved from? For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. (John 3:16-17) We will be saved from the condemnation of Hell, which is an eternal fire prepared for the Devil and his angels. For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was
(Luke 19:10)

Look at it this way: Life is a journey. One day each of us will come to a crossroad in our journey of life. At the crossroad are two paths. One path leads to
Everlasting Life: Happiness, Peace, Light, and Life. Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. (John
14:6) The other path leads to Everlasting Punishment: Torment, Pain, Darkness, and Death. There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. (Proverb 16:25)

Now, when we come to that crossroad, we will have to make a decision: which road will we take? Any sane person would not have to think twice about this. But the human race has an adversary – the Devil. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: (1 Peter 5:8) The devil is evil, and is the Lord’s enemy. As such, he hates every single soul on this planet, and has since its beginning. He especially hates those that choose the path of Everlasting Life. He will do everything within his power to make sure that every human being takes the road to Everlasting Punishment. He disguises that dark road by illuminating it with neon lights, party favors, empty promises and lies, lies, lies. We do not want to be caught in his deadly trap by treading his dark road. Hell was originally created for the devil and his angels, and was not made for us.

We have been given a guide book. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. (Psalm 119:105) That guide book is His perfect words preserved in the King James Bible. Thy word is very pure: therefore thy servant loveth it. (Psalms 119:140) Thy word is true from the beginning: and every one of thy righteous judgments endureth for ever. (Psalm 119:160) Will we use the guide book to help us complete our journey, or will we set it aside and depend on our own plan? Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. (Psalm 119:11)

Please consider the following:

We are all born sinners. For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not. (Ecclesiastes 7:20) For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; (Romans 3:23) As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: (Romans 3:10) Wherefore, as by one man [Adam] sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: (Romans 5:12)

As sinners, we have earned wages for all the sins we have committed in our lives. For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 6:23) That death is an eternal death in Hell. We all deserve this because we have earned it. We can do nothing of ourselves to cancel what we have earned. We cannot save ourselves – we cannot work
our way to heaven. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. (Ephesians
2:8 & 9) But the Lord does not want us to perish in Hell. The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. (II Peter 3:9)

Our Creator, the Lord Jesus Christ, provided a way to cancel our sin wages and save us from death and Hell. But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8) The Lord Jesus Christ gladly came down from heaven in the form of a man and suffered death on the Cross, and became our sin so that we might have eternal life. For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. (II Corinthians 5:21)

We were born wrong (as sinners), so we need to be “born again”. Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. . . That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. (John 3:3 & 6) We need to hear His word and believe on him to be “born again”. Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live. (John 5:24 & 25) Believing on Jesus Christ as Saviour is the only way to be “born again”. Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. (Acts 4:12) When we are “born again”, we are born into God’s family. But as many as received
him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.
(John 1:12)

We need to repent (be sorry for and forsake) of our sinful life. Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; (Acts 3:19) We must confess that the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins, was buried, and rose again the third day so that we may obtain eternal life. That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. (Romans 10:9, 10 & 13)

Jesus is knocking at your heart’s door right now. Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. (Revelation 3:20) Right now He is asking you to make a decision on which road you will choose. (For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.) (II Corinthians 6:2) Are you ready to make a decision? Please remember that none of us has the promise of tomorrow. Any one of us could die without a moment’s notice. Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest
not what a day may bring forth.
(Proverb 27:1)

Simply put, you need to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ as the one who bore your sin, died in your place, was buried, and whom God resurrected. His resurrection powerfully assures that you can claim everlasting life when you receive Jesus Christ as your Saviour. Believe that the Lord means what He says, take Him at His word, and claim His salvation by faith. Do not trust your feelings, but stand on the Lord’s promises. The Lord’s power will save you, keep you saved, and enable you to live a victorious Christian life.

One day all of humanity will stand before the Great White Throne and will be judged by their Creator. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. (Revelation 20:12, 13, & 5)

He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. (I John 5:12)

He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him. (John 3:36)
